MG's new all-electric hatchback, the MG4, launched on August 29 at Auto Show. This car, the first new-energy vehicle from MG in its new century of operation, is priced between ¥65,800 and ¥80,800.

Don't assume a hatchback means sacrificing space. The all-new MG4 has impressive dimensions: 4,395 x 1,842 x 1,551 mm with a 2,750 mm wheelbase—the longest in its class. This gives it a spatial efficiency of 93.8%, so even two 180 cm tall passengers in the back won't feel cramped. The trunk is surprisingly generous, too, with 471 liters of space—126 liters more than the BYD Dolphin. It easily fits a stroller and two 25-inch suitcases. If you need to transport larger items, simply fold down the second-row seats to create a 1.87 m² "big bed room," perfect for camping trips with tents and sleeping bags. It’s a true example of a "small car with a big purpose."

Range is another strong suit, with two options available: 437 km and 530 km. The 437 km version starts at just ¥65,800, bringing the entry price for a 400 km range vehicle to under ¥70,000. This is more than enough for a week's worth of commuting. The 530 km version is just over ¥90,000, with an impressive energy consumption of only 10.4 kWh/100 km—making it more energy-efficient than even smaller A0-class models that are 500 kg lighter. It performs especially well in cold weather. At -7°C with the car pre-heated, it achieves 75% of its rated range, which is 20% higher than the industry average. This means you won’t have to worry about rapid battery drain when driving in the north during winter. Plus, it can fast-charge from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes, 5 minutes faster than the Dolphin. You can get a significant charge while just grabbing a coffee.

Who would've thought a car in the sub-¥100,000 range would use a semi-solid-state battery? The MG4’s ¥99,800 "Anxin" semi-solid-state battery version has a battery pack that won't smoke even after a three-directional, 10-point puncture test, completely eliminating the risk of spontaneous combustion. It also improves discharge power and fast-charging speeds in winter, making it a reliable choice for drivers in northeastern China.

The car also features CTB (Cell-to-Body) technology, which integrates the battery into the car body, boosting overall torsional rigidity to 31,000 N・m/deg. This makes the car feel solid and stable at high speeds and when cornering. The in-house developed integrated thermal management system is even more impressive. Using an aluminum-rare earth alloy with a melting point over 630°C, it operates normally even in extreme cold down to -35°C. The system's A/C consumes 50% less energy than conventional split systems, saving a lot of power when using the heater in winter. This technology directly breaks Tesla’s long-standing monopoly.

Whether you're a fashion-conscious mom, part of a young family, or a trend-focused driver, the MG4 meets your needs. For moms, the design is particularly thoughtful. The front windshield offers 99.9% UV protection, and the rear privacy glass blocks 78% of visible light, so you don’t have to worry about the sun bothering your baby. The automatic parking assist feature makes parking a breeze, even for new drivers.

Young families prioritize practicality. The MG4’s 530 km range is perfect for weekend trips. The passenger space is ample, and the seats are made of a baby-friendly, skin-safe material that prevents sweat buildup. Tech enthusiasts will be drawn to its performance. The 120 kW six-in-one motor allows for 0-50 km/h acceleration in just 3 seconds, delivering a powerful push. It also supports OPPO Smart Travel, allowing you to control the car directly from your phone. Paired with the 20-minute fast charge, you can hit the road for a short road trip without waiting around.

After experiencing the MG4, many drivers have been surprised. First, they were surprised a car in this price range comes standard with a Qualcomm 8155 chip. Second, they couldn't believe the 15.6-inch 2.5K display supports a full range of apps and connects instantly when your phone is nearby. Finally, they were shocked by the attention to detail, like the soft-light makeup mirror, 30 storage compartments, and a heated steering wheel. It's not just a car; it's a "mobile cozy home."

Worried about where to get your car serviced? MG has you covered. The company plans to expand its dealership network to 400 by the end of the year. They will also partner with OPPO to open 200 pop-up stores in shopping malls, making it easy to see a car while you're out and about, without having to make a special trip to a 4S dealership. After-sales service is handled by SAIC's robust system, with 1,000 SAIC maintenance centers nationwide ready to provide convenient service and repairs nearby.

The MG4’s launch also introduced a new digital IP, Morris, which features a cute design with a classic helmet silhouette and macaron colors. Morris will serve as an AI assistant in the car's system, showrooms, and mobile apps, providing a fun and interactive experience for users. Looking ahead, MG plans to invest ¥10 billion in R&D over the next three years to launch 13 new-energy vehicles. They also promise to bring advanced technologies typically found in ¥300,000 cars, like L3 assisted driving and steer-by-wire chassis, down to the ¥100,000-200,000 market. This commitment to "technology democratization" truly shows MG understands what today’s young drivers want.
