On August 11th, the pre-sales for the 2026 Tank 500 Hi4-T/Hi4-Z officially began. The new model offers two variants with pre-sale prices of ¥360,000 and ¥388,800, respectively. As an annual facelift model, the new Tank 500 features significant adjustments to its exterior and interior, not only adding a lidar system but also providing comfort amenities like a "refrigerator, TV, and large sofa."
In terms of exterior design, the new Tank 500 retains the silhouette of the current model while refining the front grille. The stacked chrome trim inside the grille draws inspiration from ancient Chinese architecture. The brand logo has been given a more streamlined, flattened design and integrates a millimeter-wave radar. For body colors, a new "Dunhuang Green" is available, joining existing options like "Kunlun Gold," "Pamir Silver," and "Mount Everest White." The side profile of the vehicle sees the addition of intelligent driving assistance sensors, including lidar, on the roof and front fenders. These will support Great Wall's third-generation CoffeePilot Ultra driver assistance system, which includes all-scenario NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) functionality. The vehicle's dimensions remain consistent with the current model, measuring 5078/1934/1905mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2850mm. The rear features a new "GWMTANK" badge.
For the interior, the new Tank 500 Hi4-T/Hi4-Z continues the style of the existing model with detailed optimizations. The front dashboard is equipped with a 12.3-inch full LCD instrument cluster, a 14.6-inch central multimedia display, and a HUD (Head-Up Display). The infotainment system runs on the Coffee OS3 intelligent operating system, and the instrument cluster supports a far-infrared night vision system. Additionally, the new model adopts a column shifter and includes dual 50W wireless charging pads on the center console. The seats are upholstered in Nappa leather, and all four front and rear seats offer ventilation, heating, and massage functions. The rear seatbacks can be reclined from 25 to 35 degrees and are also split-foldable, expanding the trunk capacity to a maximum of 1489L. A new 17.3-inch 3K entertainment screen is mounted on the ceiling for the rear passengers, supporting six control modes: voice, gesture, touch, mobile phone, remote control, and a rear armrest screen. The vehicle also comes with a 50W compressor-based refrigerator with a temperature range of -6°C to 50°C.
Regarding powertrain, the new Tank 500 Hi4-T/Hi4-Z maintains the same setup as the current models. The 2.0T engine has a maximum power output of 185 kW. The Tank 500 Hi4-T features a single electric motor with a maximum power of 120 kW and a 37.1 kWh battery pack, offering a pure electric range of 110 kilometers under WLTC conditions. The Tank 500 Hi4-Z comes with dual electric motors, a combined power output of 455 kW, and a 59.05 kWh battery pack, providing a pure electric range of 201 kilometers under WLTC conditions, with a focus on off-road capabilities. The gasoline-powered version of the Tank 500, which is still on sale, is equipped with a 3.0T V6 engine producing a maximum power of 265 kW and a peak torque of 500 N·m, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. However, the official status of whether this model will be retained in the new lineup has not been confirmed.
Based on product positioning and powertrain forms, the main competitors for the gasoline-powered Tank 500 are models like the FAW-Toyota Prado and Ford Explorer. The primary rivals for the Tank 500 Hi4-T/Hi4-Z are models like the Fang Cheng Bao Bao 8. Retail data shows that from January to July 2025, the Tank 500 New Energy vehicle accumulated sales of 22,891 units, with an average monthly sales of about 3,000 units, placing it second only to the Tank 300. In contrast, the gasoline-powered version only sold 1,035 units, ranking at the bottom of the Tank brand's performance. It remains to be seen whether the new Tank 500 can leverage its upgraded features to improve its market performance.
