BYD’s launches new MPV : “Xia” Isn’t BYD’s First MPV - What Makes It Different Than?

On January 8th, BYD officially launched BYD Xia, its first mid-to-large sized MPV under the Wang Chao (Dynasty) series. The car is available in four versions, with prices ranging from ¥249,800 to ¥309,800.

Though Xia isn’t BYD’s first MPV (with the Denza D9 and the smaller Song MAX preceding it), these models have proven BYD’s capability to create competitive MPVs.

But what makes the Xia unique?

Differentiation From Denza D9

While comparisons between BYD Xia and Denza D9 are inevitable, BYD has crafted a balanced portfolio through strategic differentiation in size, features, and price.

Dimensions:

The Xia measures 5145/1970/1805 mm (LxWxH) with a 3045 mm wheelbase. Compared to the Denza D9, the Xia is 10 mm wider but slightly smaller in other dimensions, including a 65 mm shorter wheelbase. The Xia offers a more expansive and authoritative exterior presence, fitting its “Dynasty” branding.

Features and Smart Technology:

 • The Xia is equipped with the advanced “Heaven’s Eye” DiPilot 100 intelligent driving assistance system, which includes:

 • Highway navigation (HNOA)

 • Adaptive cruise control (ICC)

 • Lane-keeping assistance

 • Remote and automated parking

 • While the Denza D9’s intelligent systems operate seamlessly in both urban and highway scenarios, Xia’s capabilities are primarily optimized for highway and rapid transit routes.

The Xia features a custom-designed 4 nm chip for its cockpit, with display configurations including:

 • 15.6-inch central control screen

 • 12.3-inch co-pilot entertainment screen

 • 15.6-inch ceiling-mounted screen

Though it has fewer screens than the Denza D9, the Xia compensates with functionality. The ceiling-mounted screen is ideal for family trips, akin to a living room television.

Other notable interior highlights include:

 • Four-zone intelligent voice control (excluding the third row).

 • Second-row seats with ventilation, heating, massage, zero-gravity recline, and multi-row interconnectivity.

 • Third-row features like electric recline and fold-flat functionality, optimizing comfort and storage flexibility.

The Xia shares the same powertrain as the Denza D9, utilizing:

 • Fifth-generation DM technology

 • 1.5Ti high-efficiency hybrid engine

The Xia excels in smooth and precise power delivery. The quick transitions between operating modes ensure prolonged high-efficiency performance.
